Why Does Polyethylene Get a Bad Rap
Plastics come in many different types and variations. At Encore Poly, we specifically specialize in Polyethylene, or Poly for short. This type of plastic is easily the most versatile, as it comes in different types.
Our Low-Density Polyethylene or LDPE is used to make common household items you use everyday. Without it, resealable bags, trash bags, and other items used to preserve or dispose of our food wouldn’t exist.
Our High-Density Polyethylene or HDPE is used in construction applications and other stiffer, stronger packages. If its tough, it’s HDPE. These are everyday plastics that are necessary for every household.
Everyday life and Polyethylene
Though we take it for granted, Polyethylene fuels the world around us. For example, take a look back at your trip to the grocery store. All frozen and refrigerated foods are stored safely in Polyethylene.
This is because one of the benefits of Polyethylene is that it is food grade safe. The next stop at the grocery store is the register; where you place all of your groceries in Polyethylene bags.
Though plastic bags get a bad wrap, they can be reused in countless ways and when recycled properly, pose minimal damage to the environment.
On top of this all, they are low cost, while still offering superb versatility. Our world wouldn’t function without Low-Density Polyethylene and its many benefits.
Polyethylene: Robust and Rugged
When storing household items into bins, we are typically using High-Density Polyethylene. garbage bins, food storage containers and other tough plastics are usually made from HDPE. The benefit of using HDPE is that it is highly resistant to changes in temperature.
It can, in fact, be brought to its boiling point and back without suffering major damage. This comes in handy when storing clothes and foods as they won’t be affected by changes in humidity and temperature.
When microwaving a food storage container, the reason it doesn’t melt is due to its resistance to the elements. Then when taking it out of the microwave, it resists heat and maintains room temperature, instead of being scalding hot.
Once it’s done being used, it’s conveniently dishwasher safe; eliminating the hassle of hand-cleaning. We overlook these benefits without thinking twice, but imagine a world without HDPE.
Moving away from household application, LDPE is used in tough contractor bags and sheeting. These tough plastics provide rugged versatility when used to improve our infrastructure. Low-Density Polyethylene is advancing the world around us.
